About the Shot
I taught a workshop in London that brought an absolutely amazing crowd of people. I felt vibrant and energized after the day, and was eager to create a self-portrait in the house that I had been shooting workshop demos in for two days. I went upstairs with my abundance of energy, closed the door behind me, and tried to forget the day I just had...not because it was a bad one - no, it was amazing..but because I felt that the house itself deserved more respect than that. I wanted to sit in silence and really think about this place that I was lucky enough to shoot in. I sat alone for a little while, thinking of story after story that might have taken place in this room. Finally, I noticed some dusty curtains piled up on a chair and knew I wanted to create a story with them. I wrapped myself in the fabric, which hung heavily with the weight of dust, and then used some Photoshop help to create a dress out of it. I felt that the space deserved the kind of elegance I imagine it once had, and so I used my pose, colors, and shape of the "dress" to create what I imagine once existed here.
