About the Shot
I grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania which is also known as Amish Country. I feel very fortunate that I was able to grow up around forests and farms, covered bridges and history. My work now is very influenced by growing up in such a nature-rich area, and my life is also influenced by that as well. I moved away from Lancaster when I was 18 years old, but my heart remains in that town with my family and the scenery that I adore. This is a self-portrait taken at a farm in Lancaster, one of the few times I have been able to photograph the place where I grew up. As a dedication to the town, I titled the image "The Leaves of Linden Avenue", which is the street I grew up on. This being a self-portrait, it felt very fitting that I would pay tribute to a place that has so greatly impacted my life.
