About the Shot
PACIFICA I had just gotten back from shooting in Yosemite for a week when I came across this beach. It had a unique feel to it with the rocky coast and the calm waters. When the sun began to set the cliffs began to turn orange. Unfortunately my gear was in the truck and there just wasn't enough time. I wanted a good sunset with this image so decided to stay a few nights until I saw the right sky. The day this picture was taken I didn't expect any color. I left my gear in the truck as this is a treacherous hike. As the sun began to set I realized I was wrong. I sprinted back to my truck grabbed my gear. I got back to my spot just in time to catch the clouds turning pink and this was the moment I was waiting for. The cliffs were lit a bright orange, a long exposure with a ND filter would set the water to a perfect calm silky look As the tide began to come in I knew I only had a few seconds as I had to keep lifting my tripod as the water rushed in. Snapped five photos and got out of there quickly before my equipment got ruined. This image is one of my favorites taken home from California.
