About the Shot
“The Triumph of Time” The birth of a slot canyon begins as a hairline crack in sandstone. The energy from turbulent fast moving water from flash floods eventually forms a deepening crevice that over time becomes a slot canyon. Over time winds and moving water etch beautiful flowing lines on the walls of these canyons. I had heard about these canyons and was excited to visit one. When I arrived I was disappointed to see that there were many other photographers already set up out all over the canyon. Everywhere I walked there was no way I could point my camera and not include a photographer in the viewfinder. So I did the only I could do –lean against the wall and aim up. This was the first time I used my panoramic film camera under such dark light. I waited several hours in that spot waiting for the light rays to enter the canyon from above. When no light rays appeared the other photographers packed up and left. Some minutes later the light changed and I shot this image.
