About the Shot
This is one of the longest tree lined paths I know of and it’s near my home not far from Amsterdam. Because of the great zoom range and the low point of view I got this effect of the trees packed together covered in an intense V shape of leaves. The cyclist gives a good idea of the proportion.
Cycle in Gold was one of the nominated images for the Hasselblad Masters Award 2012.
Salient detail: Hasselblad is one of the best cameras available and the Hasselblad Masters is one of the most prestigious awards in the business. A friend tipped me at the very last moment and I quickly send in 5 images not having read all the rules.
One of the images, Cycle in Gold, was shot with a Panasonic DMC FZ50. For those who know nothing about cameras… it’s not the best camera around, but I loved that camera. Anyway, I ended up as one of the10 finalists. It was a great honor and still is. Unfortunately I did not won the Hasselblad Masters Award, but the image was selected and presented in Beijing, Koln and Zingst.
