About the Shot
Making night shots has always been an adventure for me. You meet interesting people, weird people, wise folk and suspicious thieves. On this night at Walton Lighthouse in Santa Cruz CA. A man from Pakistan running at 1:45am, stopped by to see what I was doing. I prefer making photos alone or just with my dog Vito, but sometimes, you get interrupted. But this time, it was a pleasant interruption about how a poor Pakistani boy became an architect/engineer and most of his dreams were fulfilled for his "American Dream." Although, he was lonely. Learning from me that I am married, and mentioning to me, "why did you do that?!?! you must travel the world! I am alone and will never get married again, I love it." I kind of envied him, I do love to be alone. But he was also bitter, about the world, bitter about women. He accomplished so much, but his heart had not healed from his divorce. Some nights I'm a photographer, and other nights a diary with a camera for people.
Made me think,"Am I the lighthouse keeper leading the ships in? or am I the captain leading the ships to the lighthouse?" All I can do is listen.
