About the Shot
Another shot of my grandfather in law, on another visit to Slovakia. I absolutely love photographing this man. I lost my grandfather who was from Germany, a photographer, farmer, avid hiker, family man and preservationist back in 1998. My grandfather is what inspires me with what I do today, in travel writing and photography, he always has since I was a child and I miss him very much.
When I first met my grandfather in law, he reminded me of my own grandfather in so many ways, they were extremely similar in the way they lived their lives. So much hope, knowledge and life in his face; so much positivity. He was getting eggs from the chickens this morning in the photo for our breakfast. A breakfast filled with extreme amounts of bacon fat as well! So heavy, but so goooood! In another photo that I entered, which is from this year, you will see him holding a canvas of him and his wife. She just passed suddenly at the end of 2011 from cancer; they never knew she had it.
He is a wise man, I'm very happy and honored to know him, learn from him and be a part of his family.
